#TBT-November 29th & December 6th
YO. You are now in the illustrious presence of the almighty, KB.
Here to slap you in the face with this Thursday’s, and last Thursday’s #TBT. I did alottttttttttt of contemplating, with this being the very first #TBT and all…..what artist would be the perfect choice for such an amazing inauguration……what song would be the perfect choice for such an immaculate scene…..and after a few minutes of pondering, I found the song: so here it is!
#TBT FOR NOVEMBER 29TH: Eric B. & Rakim – “I Ain’t No Joke”
Possibly the hardest song ever created in hip-hop history. Rakim, who would go on to arguably be the best emcee to ever grace a mic, had just the right hint of swagger, with just a pinch of suave, and a whole lotta “ruff”. Rakim was “gangsta” in so many ways. Not only ‘Kim, but Eric B. also. One of the best DJ’s in hip-hop history, B’s intricate turntable skills helped pin this song, this album, and this duo at the top of everybody’s list.
FAVORITE LINE: “I hold the microphone like a grudge, B’ll hold the record so the needle don’t budge. I hold a conversation, cause what I invent, i nominated, my DJ, the President.”
#TBT FOR DECEMBER 6TH: Jay-Z – “December 4th”
Happy belated birthday Hovito! Basically a Jigga-biopic, with the title deriving from his birthdate. Just Blaze produced. Nice, solid track with MamaHov on the narrations.
FAVORITE LINE: “They say they never really miss you till you dead or you gone, so on that note, I’m leaving after the song.”
Aight. Be back Thursday. Yall make sure you eat right, pray, and lose yourself in these beats and rhymes.
And that’s the truth, Ruth.
